Tricks of the Light (LightWing Lore) Empty Tricks of the Light (LightWing Lore)

Post by Wylandriah Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:42 pm

History to Present Day
The LightWings had always been a Tribe of mystery. Their numbers have always been low compared to the might of others, and seeing a LightWing was a rare occurrence. LightWings became so uncommon, so few and far between that they became something of a myth. Do dragons of pure, vibrant color even exist? Could there be such a thing as a mortal being able to harness the powers of illumination? And the Dazzling Jungle, so dense in growth and deadly in toxins- how could any dragon, let alone a civilization, see that as a home? There are even whispers that once, long ago, the LightWings held a species of dragon known as the StarWings who frolicked in the cosmos beyond the planet. They were faster than SkyWings and looked as if they were part of the galaxy itself. Most dismiss these stories as false, but it is all true, though these StarWings have since died out and only distant hybrids remain.

Little known to the rest of the world, the LightWings have only had two monarchs in their history: Queen Sleenia and her successor, King Devi. Since the beginning of the monster invasion, the LightWings have been without leadership. There were no heirs to the throne, and none among the Tribe were willing to step up to take the mantle. Any suspicion that LightWings even existed beyond a dragoness named Destella was soon smothered as the government fell silent. No messages to the Tribe leadership were answered, and visitors who tried to reach the capital were unable to reach the heart of the jungle. Indeed, it appeared the Order of Starlights was only of SkyWings for the LightWings might as well have been nonexistent. That is until at last a dragon stepped up with dreams to reform the Tribe into a force of manipulative power and tricks.

Wylandriah of the LightWings was a dragoness known for her beauty and honeyed words. She was liked and hated by many. Those who liked her admired her way with words. Those who hated her were jealous of her appearance or saw her as a fool. While it is true that Wylandriah seemed to be an airheaded dragon concerned with her own vanity, it was all a ruse to conceal the intelligence that lay underneath. Besides, who were the people to deny a leader in their darkest time of need?

So it was that Wylandriah became the third leader of the LightWings, but not as the queen. Changes were underway. Monarchs- kings, queens, the like -have always been overrated. Now was the time of the Czar, ruled with the help of her second-in-command: the Vozhd.

The Dazzling Jungle is so thick and bizarre that few dare to enter.

Those born outside of it are doomed to die the second they set foot within. The leaves of the trees are so heavy that the inside of the jungle is cast in a forever darkness regardless of the time of day. Many plants and streams are toxic. Anyone new to the LightWing territory will surely have a hard time surviving, as only LightWings know the best watering holes and edible foods. The harsh environment of the Dazzling Jungle make the Tribe fierce and hardy survivalists.

The first capital of the LightWings has been abandoned since the beginning of the apocalypse. Though it has ended, the tribe has not returned.

While most tribes have many areas of civilization, the majority of the LightWings' territory is wild and empty of draconic life. Since the beginning of the tribe's existence, there has only been one capital, which has also served as the only place of LightWing civilization. It is named Sleenial Gust, named after their first ruler. At the beginning of the apocalypse, however, monsters overran it and drove the LightWings to a new secluded location.

Unexpectedly, this new site of living has given the LightWings more power than before.

The new capital of the LightWings is Astral's Bane, an underground cave system aptly named for its absence of natural light. As such, even the omnipresence of the gods cannot reach them here, making the location absolutely secret. The jewel of this new location, however, are the glowing mushrooms with inhabit the caves. Strangely, the light these mushrooms give grant LightWings stronger power than the sun had- not to mention they make fetching decorations. The mushrooms come in many colors and can be served as food in many ways, but they have mind-altering properties for non-LightWings.

The LightWings have become something like a secret society. The government takes loyalty and secrecy very seriously to the point that they will exile or eliminate those who are perceived as a threat. In the tribe's revival, they have become a force to be reckoned with.

Government Ranks
Czar (occasionally spelled as tsar)
The LightWings are lead by the czar (feminine form czarina) who oversees all Tribe affairs. The czar is at the top of the tribe, and all LightWings are under their command.

Vozhd
The vozhd is the righthand of the czar. The czar cannot be everywhere at once, so the vozhd takes on some of their duties. The vozhd is of lower rank than the czar, but not by much. They have all the power of the czar, but it is ultimately the czar who makes the decisions. The vozhd is most likely to specialize in the areas that the czar lacks in.

Military
The LightWings have less of a military and more of a spy force. After all, since their home is secret even to the gods, they have no fear of invasion. Guardians do exist to eliminate all trespassers, but there is no need to build a whole protective force. The jungle protects the LightWings. As dragons with the power to change their appearance, LightWings make the ultimate spies. They can look like any dragon from any other tribe, and most bystanders can hardly tell the difference. LightWings excel in reconnaissance and have a wealth of intelligence on the other dragon nations. While spies are trained to fight, they make up more of the military than full fighters. They are regarded highly among their own tribe, and much of the LightWing folktale has to do with tricking others by changing their scales.

High Military Ranks
Skryvat
The skryvat is the best spy of the LightWings and, therefore, all of Pyrrhia. As such, they are the leader of the spy force in the Dazzling Jungle. The skryvat recruits spies and is the head of intelligence. Other than the czar and vozhd, this is the highest honor any LightWing can attain.

Zashchitnik
The zashchitnik is the best of the LightWing warriors. The protection and secrecy of the tribe is their top priority, and they strategically disperse their fighting forces across the jungle. Since protection is their sphere, they may also lead architectural missions to keep the heart of the tribe hidden.
