Advice for a New Driver?

As a few of you may know, I turned 15 this Saturday and now of age to get a driver's permit. I plan to take a few practice tests online, but I know it won't be the same as the real thing. Can anyone (of my age or older) tell me what to expect? D: I'm super anxious, and I don't wanna fail and embarrass myself at school or in my family. My mom is especially putting a lot of weight on my shoulders for this. Why I'm asking a forum of people I don't know irl? There is a large range of ages and people of many opinions and tips, and I'm pretty sure that my family would just sugarcoat it for me. I want to hear what it'll be like from other people's point of view, and what it's like to be behind the wheel in a city, not on a small practice road.

Driving is really fun, and it's an enjoyable experience. However the main thing to watch out for is other people. There are a good amount of people who don't really drive to well, so the key rule is to be a defeinve driver. Meaning following the laws of the road. Stopping for Red lights behind the line, always stopping at stop signs. Stuff like that.

Also one of the big rules that is nice to know. Never get yourself distacted by playing with a radio, phone, or anything else in your car. Espicaly not when driving around a city.

What to expect. Your first few month might be a little scary, but when you get the hang of reading traffic, then you will calm down. Also ask your parents if you can drive if y'all go out doing things. Having adult there when you are learning eveything is a big help on getting your confidence up.

Point I'm trying to make is. Stay calm, watch what other people are doing, and just focus on the road. Driving isn't that hard. I wish you luck on your learning.

I personally hate driving (got my license and then didn't drive for five years :p), but you shouldn't stress too much about it.

As Hinu said, honestly the only danger while driving are the others. The mechanics will come fast and without too much effort, but what will take a while and will remain dangerous after is understanding what the others will do.

Good points Hyruu. I've been driving for 10 years (Got my learners licence at 15) and I still can't figure out why people do what they do.

Anyway driving will get easier the older you get.
