If this would have been any other day back at his volcano, he would have spent it either taking a lava bath or working on his anvil doing...something. He mostly wasn't sure when he began what it would be in the end since there was nothing really to make for him, no war that calls for arms, no lover he could make things for. Today, however, was a bit different. He has found himself a mate for the evening of his life and decided to move to her place. Of course, since she was an Earthwing and she was living on their land, he would have to move to their land as well and ask their king for permission.

After a little talk with the current king of the Earthwings, Baldirak Sapiens Draco, he decided. Vulcan would be allowed to live in their realm, for a month on the surface. After that month, the king would reevaluate and decide whether Vulcan would be allowed entrance into the kingdom beneath the ground, the Haven as the king called it. Luckily enough, his mate Eysseth decided to stay with him for as long as possible, living on the surface with him, going down when she has to work.

And today, the Firewing hermit called the Earthwing king to him. While he was waiting for the permission to move his forge into the kingdom, he was working on designs. As a vulcan, he was supposed to craft weapons. What few knew was that he was actually a very creative mind. While not as knowledgable as the scholars, he was technically speaking very good. Now, he was sitting outside the cave he shared with his mate, waiting for the king with a few scrolls in his claw with drawings on them, drawings for new weapons.

The false back of the cave--a stone slab--lowered and two EarthWings stepped out. They were two of Baldirak's four Royal Guards, twins Hamnet and Hapax. They walked up to the FireWing and glanced at the scrolls he had. Hapax, who was the oldest, spoke first. "His Highness will not meet you here."
His brother then continued, "Instead, you will be taken to his chamber." With that, the Royal Guards turned to lead Vulcan away. They stepped into the tunnel directly behind the cave and began the journey to Baldirak's den. But instead of taking the direct path, the brothers took the out-of-the-way approach, going through tunnels that weren't even connected to the Haven. It was a precautionary measure to prevent an outsider from memorizing a single route. On occasion, Hapax and Hamnet would create a new tunnel which cut through existing ones as a shortcut. After several--at least ten--minutes, the trio would arrive outside the Earth King's den.
"You will remain two tail lengths from his Highness at all times."
"We will remain out here, but can detect your movements through vibration, so remember the rule."
"His Highness will say that it is alright for you to come as close as you like. You will refrain and remain two tail lengths away."
"Lastly, he will also say we over-react. It is our duty to protect him. If you have no questions, please..."
The two of them paused before finishing in unison, "Step inside."

Vulcan didn't pay the twin guards much mind as they escorted him through the myriad of tunnels that made up the underground of the Earthwing kingdom. He didn't try to remember the way, he already guessed it was an attempt to throw him off at trying to find the way back to His Highness' chambers, no matter what anyone said, there was always a direct way to someone. As he glanced across them on their way, he had to wonder what made it that allowed twins to complete each others sentences. This thought was but short-lived when they arrived at their destination. Of course he heard the ground rules set for him by the guards but he also knew that the king was a nice character.

As he started to walk into the den, he stopped shortly, turning his head slightly in their direction before giving a slight remark he couldn't hold back. "My tail or yours?" It was probably wasted on them but he didn't care, he definitely made his point by giving that sentence as he continued walking into the den. Short enough, he found himself in front of the king. Deciding to keep himself at the other end of the room for now, he rose the claw with the scrolls inside and waved. "Hey. Thanks for making up some time to meet with me. I have to admit, your guards are a bit stuck up, also you should be more careful about the way they try to confuse outsiders. If it weren't for my age, I would have maybe remembered even the long way we took. If you want to make it sure, you should use blindfolds to prevent such things. Anyway, I haven't come empty-clawed and you probably wish to know what I have here."

The Earth King lifted his head when his door was opened and the FireWing walked in. "Their only task is to preserve my life, even if by giving up theirs. What you call being stuck up, I call doing one's job well. I would have come to you, but I woke to an old complaint in my leg. As for your journey here, that route is not permanent. A new one is created each time, and the old one destroyed. Think of it as a maze that constantly changes. Now then. What is it you have brought with you?"

Vulcan simply chuckled and tossed the three scrolls over to the king. Sitting down, he looked over at Baldirak. "Well, since you generously allow me to live on your lands, I brought myself to a great feat. Aside from my dear mate Eysseth, you are the first to actually know of these. They are weapon concepts. Drawings for prototypes and mechanics I came up with. Since I do not have my forge here yet, these weapons cannot be crafted. Only I know of the inner structure of them."
With that, he pointed at the white scroll.
White Scroll:
"This is a weapon design I named the 'Switch Axe'. It is an axe at claw. Two-clawed, it acts like pretty much any other axe. However, one can, with the right swing technique, bring the shorter blade from the back to the front, making the axe switch into a two-clawed sword. The sword is similar to a claymore in its strength and speed. In order to keep the two blades together, it needs a kind of energy. Any questions so far?"

Baldirak's tail moved to grasp the scrolls which were thrown in his direction. He identified the one Vulcan was currently describing and studied the design. But having never used a claw weapon--or any weapon for that matter--the king had a somewhat difficult time trying to imagine how it would work. "I've a few questions, but lets see the other designs first."
