The day was bright and sunny, as Alistair would have predicted the land of the SeaWings to be so. Warm sand underpaw, the Night Fury sauntered about the Crystal Isles. She enjoyed the beat of the sunlight on her shoulders, but shunned the azure waters. That could result in an issue, but only as long as her opponent didn't know of her fire-catching ability.

Alistair only knew three things of her opponent: that he was IceWing, male, and that his name was Lao. She had signed up for this tournament for the fun of it; she hoped for a challenge, but didn't raise her hopes too high... After all, she may not make it to the finals, or even the semifinals.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

Lao landed in the area they called 'Crystal Isles' and got ready to fight. He heard he would be going against a nightwing. If there was one thing he knew about Night Wings, It was that they were quick, very quick. He had a slight feeling he might be able to win because of his thick scales, size, strength and all that jazz but he didn't know for sure. A gut feeling told him this could be the death of him.

The climate was much warmer than he expected, almost a burden to him. Lao started to feel super anxious as he looked around. His opponent would make a fool out of him. The more he thought about it the worse he felt about it. He did this to assure himself he wasn't just a emotionless mind working for his rulers. He joined to prove to himself he wasn't worthless as he thought he was.

Lao sat and waited on his side, looking around for his opponent. He had the intentions to win, not to make it to finals but at least win this round, and he sure didn't want to end up killing anyone. Unnecessary slaughter would make him feel awful, unless it was for his life.

Upon reaching her side of the arena, Alistair peered over to see what her opponent looked like... He appeared to be silverish, and thick-scaled. That could be a problem, since Alistair is more sleek in figure and rather small in size. But Alistair wasn't going to let her hopes fall because some other dragon looked 'bigger' than her. After all, for perhaps the first time in her life, she was admittedly excited. She loved to fight...

Lao looked at his opponent whom appeared to be matching up. He launched toward them but landed on a big island toward the middle of the Arena. He then stopped and sat on the island waiting for his opponent to come. He figured they'd talk about how they would start off before they battled each other, this way they could work out how this would go to be a more 'friendly' competition to say the least.

As Lao waited he began to feel the sun get stronger as the day progressed on. His scales began to itch slightly as he waited. This could go well or things could go south very fast. It was a risky move to say the least.

Alistair braced herself as Lao launched towards her, but was befuddled as he didn't attack yet. Confused, she spread her wings and glided her self to the IceWing, preparing herself for anything. As she neared, she  began to grow more concerned. This    guy was way bigger than her. What if he was relentless..? What if he just crushed her? It's a little known fact amongst NightWings that Alistair, the Royal Messenger, had a weakness and fear to dragons bigger than her. It was embarrassing, really; after all, Alistair was known as 'evil', though she almost never showed it on the outside.

She got as close as she dared. She walked up to a point almost when her head was brushing his neck, and looked up at the IceWing. Alistair did her best to keep her face completely expressionless. After a few moments of eerie silence, she said, "So, are we going to do this or have a staring contest?"

Lao watched as the NightWing flew toward him and landed in front of him. He got in a slight defensive position in case they attacked, yet went back to sitting when he saw they had no intention of attacking yet. "Lets go back to our islands, and when you roar this starts." Lao said toward the NightWing. He backed away and before he took off back to his island he paused for a second. "Hey... Just wanted to say this before we start. May the best win."

Lao took off toward his island and waited. It felt like an eternity yet couldn't take more than a few minutes. He sat and wondered how this would go, wondering if he'd make it or not, wondering what he would lose in this.

Alistair smiled at the IceWing as he looked at her, but once he turned away she rolled her eyes. 'May the best win'. Hmph.
Yeah, don't worry, IceWing. She narrowed her eyes at him before flying back to her island. I will.

As she landed, she braced herself, and flexed her claws in and out of the sand expectantly.

Lao watched as his opponent left to their side of the Arena. He began to plan his strategy over the whole thing. His opponent had to be fast from what he'd seen. They'd most likely go offensive with quick strikes... So he'd just have to prevent that. But he couldn't be sure what they would do. Maybe they would be on the defense? Who knew.

He waited for them to give off the signal to start as he'd gone over.

It wasn't much longer until Alistair heard the roar. She grinned with all her teeth, and unfurled her wings. It was about time! She launched into the air with a great leap, both wings outstretched forward to gain wind. Her wings caught the breeze and began to float. She saw her opponent, Lao; from here, he appeared to only be a silver dot against pale gold.

The Night Fury folded her wings to her sides, and began to dive. She didn't pull up yet... She wanted to gain speed, and she was going for Lao.

Lao watched as his opponent took off and started to ascend into the sky. It was clear what her intentions were, to dive bomb him. He needed to time this just right so he wouldn't get hit. If he did his calculations correctly, moving out of the way just in time could cause his opponent to not only miss him, but either crash into the ground hard. But if he didn't move out of the way in time, things would go terribly for him. He'd most likely be impaled due to strike speed.

He watched as they drew closer, preparing to fling himself out of the way. Who knew? Maybe if they opened their wings too late with enough speed they might just dislocate. That would be a huge benefit to him.

Lao then snapped out of the whole though process and focused himself right onto his target.

'3...2...1... NOW'

He threw himself to the side. Now he waited and could only hope for the best. Maybe his opponent would miss, maybe this would be the end for him. He could only hope for the best...

With the wind rushing in Alistair's face and engulfing her as if she were a comet, Alistair didn't see Lao; if the wind hadn't seemed to have completely swallowed her, maybe she would have seen him step aside. But forget about 'maybe' and 'maybe not'. This was a Tournament; the possibilities are endless.

Okay, back to the fight. Alistair's ebony-black claws slid out of their pockets, and instead of making contact with scales like she predicted, she only felt soft slippery sand. She had missed. The Night Fury released a roar, and her paws burst  to flames in her frustration. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him. Lao. Alistair's cat-like pupils thinned, and she spun around to look straight at him. She opened her maw, and a great gust of flame burst out...

Lao gave a slight sigh of relief when his opponent missed the shot. He turned to look then in the eye, the Nightwing was full of rage. He saw them blast flames toward him, trying his best to dodge. This time though, things weren't as easy as before...

The Large IceWing let out a scream of pain as the flames singed his scales. He looked at the damage that had been dealt to him. His left wing was scorched pretty bad from this attack...'This must be a hybrid dragon... A new challenge... And threat...' Lao thought to himself. But that wasn't important now... What was important was what would come next. Now that he had been hit...

Lao shot a concentrated stream of ice at his attackers body. He aimed for upper torso and the neck. If he could hit this fight could get a little more even, and if he missed he was in for a lot of pain.

Alistair raised her head in triumph as she heard a scream from her adversary; she had made a hit. Maybe this would be easy after all, and Alistair began to swell with pride. Imagine what it will be like when she returns to the NightWings! Maybe even receive a promotion from Royal Messenger to something even better...

Alistair, however, had made plans too soon. She had leapt forward, claws outstretched to meet the pelt of her opponent, when she saw an icy blue streak coming straight for her... Oh crap. Not ice! Alistair yelped and beat her wings harder, gaining altitude, but she was too late. The ice engulfed her tailtip and hind paws as she had flown up, and the Night Fury fell to the ground with a thud. She briefly looked back at her tail, and saw it looked as dead as a doornail. Alistair patted the warm sand vigorously with her hind paws, trying to see if the ice will melt. She looked up frequently to see if Lao would be coming at her... She couldn't make a move now, since her paws  and tail had been frozen by his ice... She could only hope for making a counter-attack.
