The Rift of Cinders... the Earth King cringed at the thought as he passed the border into FireWing terrirtory. Why not fight in a volcano? Baldirak had spent all night praying to every god/goddess he thought might respond to not get the Rift of Cinders. Well... it was rather late; deities have to sleep too...

Baldirak looked around at the terrain below as he neared his destination. There would be no landing anywhere that didn't look like it had lava flowing beneath it. And as the King discovered, such places were few. He eventually found a safe enough place and landed there. A long sigh slipped from his maw; he hadn't been here a minute and the heat was making him uncomfortable.

As he waited for his opponent--and wondered who said opponent was--Baldirak studied his surroundings. Lava.. Way too warm rocks.. Lava. The only thing the EarthWing could take advantage of was his namesake, the earth. Alright, so he had that, at least. But Baldirak figured the fight would take place in the air mostly, anyway... That is, of course, unless his opponent was a FireWing. With a shake of his head, he returned his pale gaze to the sky, hoping to spot the Dragon soon.

Seyn was starting to wonder if this tournament was such a great idea as he flew through the Firewing territory. That floor just looked a bit too hot for him. If his opponent was a Firewing, he just could forfeit. He was quite intrigued by the lava that was flowing around, though. Would there be a suitable place to land, or would the fight have to be in the air ?
Soon enough the golden dragon spotted a rather large chunk of ground without lava, already occupied by another dragon. An Earthwing, and a really large one with that ! Seyn landed at a respectable distance from the other dragon, the maneuver made pretty difficult by all the air currents the lava was generating. As soon as he got on the ground, the intense heat hit him.
"Oomph, what a heat ! Whoever organized this tournament seriously chose the worst areas to make fights... I'm pretty sure Firewings themselves don't even go that close to the volcano often..." he exclaimed, frowning.
The Lightwing ruffled his wings and put them on his flanks as he headed a bit closer from the Earthwing.
"Well anyway, hello there. I'm Seyn, Semi-god of the Lightwings." he introduced himself.

Baldirak looked down at the LightWing who landed in front of him. Another LightWing. he thought. Good thing I have some experience with them, however little it is. And then the EarthWing heard the LightWing mention being a semi-god. Baldirak stood and lowered himself into a bow. "It is enough of an honor to have met one divine not of my own tribe, but to meet a second?" With a light grunt, Baldirak stood again. "But I will insult you by taking it easy on you, great Seyn. My name is Baldirak, King of the EarthWings."

Seyn stood still as Baldirak bowed to him, silently sighing for himself. Dragons bowing to him wasn't something he really liked, but by now he had gotten used to it. Once Baldirak stood, Seyn bowed to him.
"The honor is mine, to meet the ruler of a Tribe. Your title means more than mine, as my achievements are few and my situation is only the result of luck... or should I say, misfortune." the golden dragon replied with a sigh.

Baldirak was surprised that Seyn returned his bow, as he saw himself a lesser being. But he was also only used to his EarthWings' bowing. Almost unconsciously, his pale eyes began to scan the LightWing, looking for weaknesses. "I would like to hear that story at some point. But for now, I would see you take the first move."

Seyn stood up and looked at Baldirak, also trying to study him. Right now, there was nothing he could see. He was a bit surprised as the green dragon offered him to make the first move. Was this a trap ? Obviously. That or he just wanted to study how he was fighting. In both cases it wasn't a really good thing for him... but it wasn't like he had much of a choice. Baldirak would just wait for him to strike.
"There's not much to tale, but sure. Once we're out of here, that is. Let's do this then, the sooner we end this fight the sooner we can get to a better place." the golden dragon replied.
Without knowing much from the green dragon, Seyn's best bet was to use his breath. Standing firm on his paws, Seyn opened his mouth and unleashed a mighty breath of concentrated light. It was about as strong as you'd expect from a Lightwing, after all he wouldn't use his godly powers in this fight.

Post by Baldirak Sapiens Draco Sun Dec 27, 2015 11:09 am

The Earth King was ready for an attack. He had half expected it to come from the breath and thus made no move to defend himself against it, knowing already its effects. With that in mind, Baldirak immediately regretted it, for the beam struck his chest. A roar of pain erupted from his own maw... and unsurprisingly, what little ground there was shook and cracked. Maybe not the best place to be roaring, even if you can't help it.

When the breath faded and the intense burn melded into the ambient heat of the air, Baldirak retaliated with a purposeful roar. His claws gripped the heated rock beneath his paws. His tail struck the earth, commanding it to rise above the reach of molten substances. And as it did so, the EarthWing roared, intent on shattering the ground beneath Seyn's paws that lava may take its place.

((Because we need to make this more epic ^^ https://youtu.be/pcamjcoRmrQ?list=PLoq58GDeKElcdxUImxXYKqG91vdxzwrBH ))

Seyn got surprised as Baldirak made no movement to dodge or even block his breath, which struck him right in the chest. The golden dragon stopped the beam as the green dragon roared in pain. Which he regretted, since he had the advantage for a moment he should have pressed it... Guess hurting other dragons truly wasn't his thing.
Baldirak's roar was quite a powerful one. While the first one was purely of pain, the second one was a challenge Seyn couldn't ignore. He replied with the most powerful roar he could emit. The ground also started to crackle under his paws, finishing to make the whole arena uncertain. But that would be less of a problem to him than for his opponent, as he wasn't the tallest one here... well, not by much though. Some lava was starting to ooze from the cracks, nothing too threatening at the moment as long as he wasn't moving too much. That was leaving him just the time he needed. The golden dragon stood firm on his position and breathed his concentrated beam of light once again.

This time, Baldirak acted. His right wing lifted to defend against the bright beam. At the same time, his tail grasped a chunk of rock and dipped it carefully into the river of lava below. Quickly, he launched the rock at Seyn's face. He then lifted himself into the air, as the heat was getting to be a bit too much for him.

Seyn continued breathing the beam as Baldirak just stood on his position. His wing wouldn't be able to shield him forever... However he got a bit surprised as Baldirak suddenly made a move. Expecting a bash from his tail, Seyn jumped backward... Which proved to be a bad idea as it wasn't a tail bash. The golden dragon barely had the time to flap with wings during the jump to avoid the heated rock the green dragon had thrown. While he managed to avoid the rock, the landing wasn't that successful. The Lightwing landed heavily on the ground, which finished to crack under his feet. Hopefully the lava didn't touch him, but the rock he was stepping on was starting to glow red. Seyn roared in pain as it burned the bottom of his paws. All that happened in an instant before he took off as well, but it prove to be enough to seriously burn him. He would have problems walking for a few days... Hopefully it was unlikely the rest of this duel happened on the ground.

Baldirak felt somewhat better now that he was in the air. But it too was overly warm; far less than standing mere feet from a volcanic river, but still quite warm. Before going up into the sky, he'd watched as Seyn's paws were burned. He felt a little bad about that. Stopping to hover, he considered his next move as Seyn joined him in the sky. Time to show him my breath... Dirak opened his maw and shot three balls of acid at the LightWing. Two were aimed at his wings, while the third went for his chest.

Post by Hyruu Sat Jan 02, 2016 12:18 pm

Seyn was trying to get as much height as he could to avoid the heat that was coming from the lava below. His paws were still hurting, and they would probably continue to hurt for the next few days. The golden dragon watched Baldirak, as he knew he would strike while he was taking off. It was a too good occasion to miss. And indeed the green dragon attacked. He saw him shooting three balls of acid at him, one being perfectly centered and the other two slightly spread. Was he aiming at both his chest and his wings ? That was quite a precision Baldirak had. Hopefully the hot air currents helped Seyn dodge this without much problem, as a good wing beat was all it took to get higher than the acid balls.
Seyn continued to soar, getting higher and higher as he aimed to get higher than the green dragon. Being higher than him would prove to be an advantage, and if he also tried to get higher they may get over the ash clouds obscuring the sun. Having his scales absorb the sun light would let him use his breath longer.

Post by Baldirak Sapiens Draco Sun Jan 03, 2016 8:13 am

Baldirak watched as Seyn dodged his attack with ease. Of course he would, I meant for it to happen. His reaction time is good... My attacks must be sudden. As the LightWing started to climb higher in the sky, Baldirak remained where he was. Being as knowledgeable as he was, the EarthWing knew the most basic things about each breed. It was no secret to him that his opponent sought to reach the sun, or what reason he might have for it. And so he sought to keep the fight below the ash clouds. When Seyn had gotten as high as his chest, Baldirak sent his tail flying, shoot out with the speed of a whip, the precision of a cobra. Assuming Seyn wasn't paying attention, Baldirak's tail would find its target--the LightWing's back left leg--and coil tightly around it.

BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS) Empty Re: BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS)

Post by Hyruu Tue Jan 05, 2016 3:45 pm

Seyn silently cursed as Baldirak didn't follow him higher in the sky. He really could have used the sun... Did he know how Lightwings behaved ? Maybe, would be an explanation as for why he wouldn't follow. The golden dragon watched Baldirak's movements as he was getting closer, wary of any attack he could launch. Once again the green dragon used his tail to attack. Quickly flapping his wings to get away, he retracted his paw as the tail went close to it. The two combined let his leg escape right before Baldirak could coil around it.
Seyn continued to fly higher, trying to maintain the advantage of height. If Baldirak tried to contest this advantage, they would soon get higher than the cloud and let Seyn be under the sun. If not, the golden dragon would just keep high enough so Baldirak couldn't use any physical attack on him, leaving only the breath.

BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS) Empty Re: BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS)

Post by Baldirak Sapiens Draco Wed Jan 06, 2016 2:51 pm

Seyn managed to get away. Of course he had, Baldirak had hoped for it. He watched as the smaller Dragon continued to climb, intent on reaching the sun's rays. Baldirak went in the opposite direction, back toward the ground. He found another decent landing place and touched down. It was a little bigger than where the battle had started; just what he needed. Again, the EarthWing called on his natural abilities to split the ground beneath him. He submerged the half he wasn't standing on into the lava for a few seconds. The lava coated the rock, heated it. When Baldirak raised the rock again and broke off large chunks, it burned the tips of his toes even though he held it with his claws. But it would be nothing compared to the pain he was about to feel. He was glad he had experienced even worse pain. He raised his own half of the ground into the sky about 100ft, else he would never be able to reach his opponent. Locating Seyn, the EarthWing launched a molten lump of lava and rock into the air with a powerful swing of his tail. To keep from roaring and alerting the LightWing--it occurred to him then that Seyn might already be aware of the fact he was no longer being followed--he bit his tongue. A moment later, he repeated the action, launching more. Baldirak was glad Seyn was flying in a relatively straight line. He couldn't aim with great precision, but what he could manage would be accurate enough if they hit. He tried to aim the molten projectiles at Seyn's wings, back, and the base of his tail.

Post by Hyruu Sat Jan 09, 2016 1:58 pm

Seyn frowned as he realized Baldirak wasn't following him at all and instead went the opposite direction. He stopped ascending, instead doing circles while watching the green dragon. Getting his eyes away from his opponent was the last thing he would do. But with the distance between them, he couldn't quite see what he was doing. After some time, the green dragon began ascending again, though pretty slowly. What did he have in mind ? He got his answer as a projectile headed toward his direction. With the distance between them, it was quite easy to dodge it, but if Baldirak continued to get closer it would get harder and harder to dodge. No way to get close quarters without risking to take a good chunk of... wait, was that heated rock ? How on earth could he be carrying a chunk of molten rock ? That must hurt like hell ! Maybe he could use this ? Risky move, but...
Seyn went higher up, entering the ash clouds. He flew as random as he could so the green dragon couldn't predict his position. He would reach the sun, charge a bit and go all out on him. Being unpredictable was his only chance.

Post by Baldirak Sapiens Draco Sat Jan 09, 2016 2:39 pm

Every molten rock launched caused the EarthWing great pain. But to roar would mean the destruction of his pillar. So his mouth filled with blood as he continued to bite into his tongue to prevent from making any earth-shaking noise. When Seyn retreated into the ash clouds, Baldirak stopped launching rocks--mostly because at that point, he had run out. He spit out the blood in his mouth and then contemplated his next move. Rather than try to determine what the LightWing might do, he decided to prepare for things. He left his pillar and dove back down into the heat. Now that he thought about it, this insane heat was starting to get to him... His stubborness was helping with it for now and so was his burned tail. Baldirak followed the river of lava, weaving through the volcanoes. He found areas of rock that didn't have any lava and raised them into the air. He even raised some that were covered in lava; 30 pillars total he raised at varying heights in the sky, between 40 and 100ft. After that, Baldirak returned to the original pillar he had been perched on before and stood there, waiting for Seyn to reappear.

Finally, some sun. Seyn let the light bathe his scales, feeling a surge of energy. Yes, that was it. The golden dragon dove under the clouds, hoping to surprise Baldirak if he still was trying to reach him. But instead he saw no one. Seyn got a bit perplexed, not knowing where Baldirak was. He noticed pillars of stone here and there that weren't there before he went up in the clouds. Far from chasing him, it seemed Baldirak had prepared his defense on the ground. And now he was right in it.

Baldirak still stood on his pillar, waiting for Seyn to show himself in some form. He had assumed the LightWing would continue using the ash clouds to his advantage and hid there while he attacked... But instead, Seyn came back below the clouds. And then his opponent seemed confused; he looked around as if he couldn't see Baldirak. The EarthWing hadn't blended in to the pillar he stood on... could it be that Seyn simply had overlooked him? Whatever it was, Baldirak would use it to his own advantage while he had the chance. The EarthWing opened his maw and shot three balls of acid at the LightWing, again aiming for wings and the chest. As he fired the last ball of acid, he moved to another pillar, one that was only 40ft tall.

Seyn heard the acid balls before seeing them. He made a turn to try and avoid them, but one of the balls hit him in the flank. Seyn roared as the acid starting burning his scales. He managed to quickly wipe a part of it with his paw to avoid it attacking too deep in his flesh, even though it burned his paw even worse than it already was. Needless to say, this was a pretty bad hit he took. Unless he ended this quickly he wouldn't win against the other dragon.
Now spotting Baldirak, Seyn decided to go all-out. Being on his pillar, Baldirak didn't have a lot of margin to move. The golden dragon circled around the pillar and began using his light breath against the other dragon. However, expecting Baldirak to shield himself like the last time, Seyn changed his trajectory and headed right toward the green dragon, hoping to ram him. With them being about the same size, there was a chance he would be able to make him fall from the pillar and land on him.

BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS) Empty Re: BALD V SEYN (RIFT OF CINDERS)

Baldirak heard a roar behind him as he landed on the 40ft pillar. He must have hit Seyn. He turned to look up at the LightWing, who now circled above. And the light beam came. Baldirak couldn't use his wings to shield himself and hope to be able to fly if needed. So he began shooting acid at the four pillars immediately around him, which were between 80 and 100ft tall. The acid quickly eroded the rock and caused the pillars to fall. At the same time, the beam reached him and struck the center of his back. It felt as if a drop of lava had landed on him, but in a way, it helped. The burning caused him to roar, which was what he was going to do anyway. The falling pillars broke into smaller pieces. The ones only a few feet higher than his would protect him from Seyn's light beams--or the Dragon himself... Baldirak then noticed the LightWing diving toward him. Falling from a 40ft pillar wasn't exactly an option for the giant Dragon. It left him no room to recover. But at least the rocks falling from the 100ft pillars might slow Seyn down a bit. Trying to ignore the pain at his back, Baldirak coated his forelegs, chest, and sides in acid as he braced himself.

((This seems a dangerously random move, considering Seyn is almost above Baldirak...))

Seyn was already going too fast to stop when Baldirak made the pillars collapse. The Golden dragon briefly wondered how Baldirak intended not to be hurt by the falling rocks, as if they were falling on Seyn they would also hit Baldirak. But now wasn't really the moment to question his acts. He was there, some rocks above him, some under preventing him from using his breath.
Something brushed his tail as he was getting closer from Baldirak. It was a boulder from one of the pillars that was following the same direction as himself. Too bad there were so many of them he couldn't just disengage and let the boulder do the work. Strangely enough the safest place seemed to be where he was, almost at the center of all pillars and above Baldirak. Kind of being in the eye of the storm... Seyn suddenly had an idea. Flipping his body around, his claws got over the boulder that was following him. He quickly moved on the other side of it, being on top of it instead of the bottom. Sure he exposed his back while doing so, but in the same fashion he couldn't his Baldirak with his beam the green dragon couldn't hit him with his acid. It only took two or three seconds, but at that speed one or two seconds was all what was left before the impact.
