Post by Tharasis Fri Jun 21, 2019 7:59 pm

Tharasis flew high above the skies as he made his way towards the island. The breeze was calming yet to him, it soothe him for what was to come later on.

He had prepared for this for over a month now, spending his time training and preparing himself. But why would he do something such as this? For a rouge it was odd to try to claim such a vast territory. But he had his reasons, the top being for his family. He was worried about their safety back at the main land, with all those monsters roaming, and how the tribes had suffered so much. It made him doubt he and his family would be safe there anymore.

When he had discovered this island he noticed it was unclaimed. But that was to be debated for he only ever flew above to survey it rather than go to ground. But from what he already saw it was more then enough to convince him, from the hills that dotted the land to the many animals that he could see roam around. It was clear this island had managed to remain intact from the monster invasion. And the sign that there were no cut trees or human buildings made it clear there had not been any sort of human interaction here as well.

He could see a few mountains at the centre of the island. And when he went to it, he could oversee the land below. From the trees and grassland from which many animals roamed, to the rivers that flowed from the mountain and into the sea. This land would be perfect for his family. It was big enough for them, they would have everything they could ever need here. When he returned to their home he kept it a secret from her and his children, he wanted it to be a surprise for them all.

A smirk formed on him as he thought about what would the looks of their faces be when they saw how he claimed this land for them as he continued to fly.

But he knew or the dangers, and took every precaution for it. In his time of training he sharpened his claws to the point where they could easily carve through stone making a clear mark whenever they made contact with the hard and rough material. His horns to were sharpened to the extent where they could puncture through hard scales, and to a certain degree even hard thick layers of metal. His tail as well had also gotten an upgrade to an extent, he had managed to trade from someone a simple iron blade that he could fit into his tail blade. Giving one side the iron blade while the other side remained original.

On his satchel were his other tools and equipment. From the simple compass and map he had brought for navigation, to the matches, rope and medical supplies he had also taken with him. As well as the glass bottles filled with sleeping gas that he got from his mate. His children also managed to contribute. He had managed to acquire a flammable and poisonous mist of gas from Typhoon. Over all he had 6 of them, 3 of Stings sleeping gas and 3 of Typhoons poison gas.

He could only picture what was going through their minds when he had asked them for blow their gas in a vail of glass.

He laughed a little. Flying straight and level as the island was slowly coming into view. To anyone, Tharasis looked exited. But inside he was having doubts that was slowly plaguing him. He had not thought of it much, but the thought of him dying here could come true. He was scared, scared about not coming home. The possibility of it seemed to haunt him even when he had left his home to go here. What would his family think if he had disappeared out of the blue? To think he would have left them alone when in reality he had died in an attempt to give them a better future. There was something heavy on his chest, but he kept on flying forward.

He never felt so exited and scared in his life. As the mountain came into view he dived down in altitude as he prepared himself to land on it. No more than s few minutes later he was perched on one of the mountains many cave entrances. This one however was different from the rest. In the form that it had a pathway that safely led down from the mountain, as well as how the outside of the entrance was flat and smooth. And by the looked of his previous peeks inside it was vast. With many tunnels that branched out into the darkness. He concluded this would be his families home.

He came back again to the entrance. There was a feeling on his back and shoulders, as the the only sounds he could hear was of the wind. He steeled his nerves and slowly made his way inside.

He casted his shield over himself, and his shield slowly formed around him incasing him in its protective layer. As well as providing light so that he could see inside of the dark cave.

Their home was disturbed and after they had tried so hard to get away from the other monsters that bullied them and the groups of dragon hunting parties. The eight giant hawks that lived in this cave network ranged between 10 and 14 feet tall and each would defend their home to the last Shadow Hawk. The cave entrance was massive being 100 feet tall and 100 feet wide a marvel of nature. It was here the Shadow Hawks would intercept the intruding dragon before it could get any further. The cave echoed with the sound of many flapping wings getting louder and louder. Hardly a warning as with their incredible speed they were already on the dragon each one attempting to slam into it with all their might and push it out of this cave.

The shield posed a problem though as they slammed into it like they were slamming against the cave walls. It quickly went down after the sixth had hit though leaving the other two the opportunity to attempt slamming into the dragon and sinking their large sharp talons into it's scales. The others that had been knocked down by the shield in the mean time back up charged again. Those six would be on him soon.

claiming an island ( Risk, DRF edition ) [Lost] Empty Re: claiming an island ( Risk, DRF edition ) [Lost]

Post by Tharasis Sat Jun 22, 2019 5:27 pm

Tharasis continued to walk forward. His sharp talons slightly scratching the stone floor with each heavy step he took, and it was not long till he had encountered something.

He could hear it. Faint flapping, closer, louder it got. Till eventually the strange beings finally revealed themselves to him. In the form of swift ramming orbs that slammed head on to his shield.

He let out a gasp in surprise as he got a good look at them, the shadow hawks was their name. And by the looks of it these were this caves inhabitants. And Tharasis knew they would fight him to the death for it.

It was not long till his shield had broken, as it could only take so much punishment before collapsing. Leaving him open to the attack of the 2 hawks as the other 6 ricocheted off of him when they had collided with his shield in their successful attempt to break it.

He acted quick and fast. But not before getting his face clawed by one leaving tiny scratches on his forehead and muzzle. It won’t leave scars but it sure as well will bleed for a while.

He raised his tail. And using the iron bladed side he would parry the next attack of the two. Blocking and thrusting his tails tip at them, he needed to keep these two at a distance.

He took note of the 6 other birds. And stepped back quickly before rising his wings high and flapping them, generating winds that would hopefully knock over the still preparing hawks to attack.

Then he shifted his strategy, slowly moving forward to push the 2 hawks back into the cave. With the pace and speed of his attack, he guessed it would not be long till one of the two birds would make a mistake in their efforts to dodge him. And if one did, they would be met with the sharp end of his tail blade. Capable of piercing through armour and plating, which was something the hawks neither had.

When he was done he then moved once more. He needed to play offensively to keep them in their toes, and in doing so would prevent them from using their greatest strength of working together in this situation.

When he came close enough, he opened his maw and released his frost breath. The temperature of which was as cold as liquid nitrogen, and in this case would be something deadly to these hawks. He blew his breath in a sweeping pattern. If he could keep these birds in the freezing air for a good amount of time, they should suffer the effects of frostbite.

[[Alright so admittedly I set a poor example by explaining how your shield broke since normally that would be up to you to say but I was going to be really annoyed otherwise. However I did not assume and describe any actions you hadn't already made and likewise you shouldn't do the same.

"Then he shifted his strategy, slowly moving forward to push the 2 hawks back into the cave. During it he saw the opportunity to strike one of the hawks down when it got to distracted trying to dodge his tail swings to mind it was flying to close to the caves wall."

Here you decided it got distracted and even decided it was getting too close to the wall. That isn't for you to decide they are not your character. You would find out the result after my post.

This
"should it have struck the cave wall with its wing, Tharasis would quickly thrust his tail blade tip."

Is a good example of what you should be doing. Here you guess at what they might do and state what you would do if it should happen. That's excellent if not for the fact it wouldn't be in consideration had you not written them too close to the wall.

This
"He took note of the 6 other birds. And stepped back quickly before rising his wings high and flapping them, generating winds that would hopefully knock over the still preparing hawks to attack."

Was also good. You didn't state their actions or the result and instead stated your intent of what you hope will happen. Keep in mind it does not guarantee you'll hit them before they hit you.

I would not suggest planning too far in advance. It leaves you open to counter attack since the person replying already knows what you would do in response to something and give them a small advantage. The other result would be too many posts retroactively adjusting actions.

All and all I'd say you have potential to be a really good combat rper.  Let me know once you have edited your post.]]

claiming an island ( Risk, DRF edition ) [Lost] Empty Re: claiming an island ( Risk, DRF edition ) [Lost]

The talons of the shadow hawks were no small or weak natural weapons. They were the sharpest and most dangerous weapon they had. Nor were these birds small by any stretch of the imagination. The cuts they left were deeper and more serious than he might have realized (staff adjustment)

The hawks had faced a couple dragons before and none of them had ever used their tail other than as large sweeping clubs. This one used it like a human spear and they were not prepared for it. The first hawk to be attacked could not avoid it in time and was skewered, it's life force almost instantly vanishing.

The other hawk was more prepared and ready to dodge the stabbing attacks. However with it's buddy dead it faced the dragon alone and after a few grazing hits slowing it down it met the same fate.

By now the other birds had recovered and were already on the dragon. As the dragon was preparing to use it's breath weapon the six birds surrounded it their speed allowing them to do so before he was even ready to release. When he did release he caught one of the hawks unprepared and it froze to death very quickly. The other birds were able to avoid the deadly cold though their superior agility evading it even in these cramped spaces. Meanwhile the three at the dragons rear had the perfect opportunity to attempt mauling the dragon's back even as he was still using his breath. Their agility helping make sure the dragon wasn't able to swing around to face them.

The talons of these hawks were much more deadly than what Tharasis had thought. As evidence of the now bleeding scratches on his face. Still he was on an adrenaline rush, and the minor wounds they had inflicted had no effects on the dragon.

As he continued to breath his frost, killing some of the hawks in the process. It left him open for an attack at his rear, and as a result of his error he felt 3 of the hawks begin to claw at his back, One of them had scratched his satchels harness. And though it did not do anything it certainly left a good mark on the material.

He quickly reacted by blowing his breath in a sweeping pattern while pushing forwards back to the entrance of the cave.

He knew what that the hawks had managed to establish their method of teamwork. And unless he wanted to get a few more claw marks on his body, falling back would be his best option.

So he did just that, if any hawks were to try to attack from his front his breath would most likely freeze them before they can get to close. All the while his tail would be slashing and thrusting in random directions to throw off any attacks on his rear.

Eventually he would be back at the entrance, perfect he said to himself. Tharasis was now in an advantage. With him standing on the entrance, he had narrowed down the hawks attack choices to just his front. And it would be no easy task even if the hawks all charged at him.

With his breath constantly releasing the ever freezing frost, any hawks that would try to attack him at his front would freeze. And if somehow they had lasted long enough to get close to him to attack with their claws. Then they would be met by his tail blade, precision and accuracy was something he did not lack.

As long as he kept the frost flowing, eventually the room temperature of the cave would be so low that the hawks would all freeze. All in all he knew he was the one winning this fight.

((So in a scenario like this. Where one person sees an opportunity or mistake/disagreement with a post there are two options in serious combat rp as this one is. Preferably you'd be able to talk with them and discuss goals and come up with some sort of plan. In this case though you can either 1. Go to a combat rp judge and have them step in and decide how things really go down or 2. My personal preferred option is to state at the start of the post (calling hits) and then proceed to describe the outcome which includes saying what happens to the other character. This is the only time that kind of thing is allowed when you are making it clear it's a dispute of combat RP.))

The simple strategy had paid off. The three shadow hawks in the rear got free access to the dragons backside. This gave them the opportunity to sink their long sharp talons into the dragon and create deep damaging cuts that bled profusely. There was a satchel attacked to the dragon but it was pretty easy to avoid and even if it had gotten in the way the comparably weak material would pose little resistance to their talons.

The dragons response to this seemed to be to back up? It did nothing to bring them from his back to his front and they were left with more opportunity to continue their onslaught. Raking their talons against him again and again. His only resistance to their attacks being a wildly swinging tail which without focus on where to attack lost most of it's power as the tail prepared to swing in a different direction. Any glancing hits would be just that, glancing. One bird did get unlucky enough not to be on the edged of the attacks and got hit with the full power of the tail shattering it's bones and taking it out of the fight.

[[Saying that the hawks are more deadly than he thought, but only cause minor wounds is slightly contradictory especially against a staff ruling saying otherwise. I would not suggest trying to counter a staff ruling.

"As he continued to breath his frost, killing some of the hawks in the process."
I stated it had only killed one hawk. I don't think this was on purpose but still. In combat rp every detail is very important.

"One of them had scratched his satchels harness."
Again you have no say over what "my characters" do. If you wanted this to play a role in the fight the most you could do is remind me that it's there and state your hopes that it would get in the way of the attack.

"Eventually he would be back at the entrance, perfect he said to himself. Tharasis was now in an advantage. With him standing on the entrance, he had narrowed down the hawks attack choices to just his front. And it would be no easy task even if the hawks all charged at him."
I don't know how you had planned for this to work. The entrance to the cave is just as large as the cave itself. There is nothing saying otherwise and since I was the one to give the dimensions of the cave it gave you little to work with in that regard. What exactly is stopping them from going around you? This might have gone differently if you had spread your wings or something to block the way but that isn't quiet how it went down.

At this point you have two options. Your dragon can retreat and you do not claim the island or you continue to fight. If you do so you risk permanent damage to your dragon. We're talking losing a wing levels of life changing character damage.]]

Tharasis could feel his back, how it stung from the wounds that had been inflicted to him by the hawks talons. But he was not going to back up, he will still fight till he knows he cant win anymore.

He summoned again his shield, giving him another layer of protection. He opened his wings, and with a powerful flap would send hard winds towards the hawks.

He had hoped the winds that his large wings generated would push those birds back, keeping them distanced from him.

He needed to contain them inside, and with his breath blowing in a sweeping pattern. Blowing its deadly cold frost it should prevent the hawks from trying to out maneuver him. Using his large wings he would keep flapping hard to generate strong winds to keep them back, he was certain it would keep them at bay till the temperature of the cave had dropped enough to kill them.

His wings though flapping, were large enough to cover the caves entrance. Leaving the hawks little to no room to get out.
