Personality: Richard is a man who loves life, women, and drink. Not all in that order. He is more at home in a tavern and on the road then anywhere else. Lordly courts and noble gatherings are to rich for his blood. He is a diamond in the rough. While not a noble knight reeking of virtue he is not a villain either. He will help others if it is within his power. Richard holds himself to his own code of values. So because of that he has turned down contracts and lost work because of it. Many look down at him and his profession. But Richard kind of likes that. He likes being apart from society, and he loves a good fight.

Fears:

Scared of magic users. He will do business with magic users if he is looking to enchant some of his gear. Will even work for them. But when in battle against any creature that can use it. He is genuinely afraid of them, and for good reason.

Scared of drowning. Being on a boat makes him nervous but not panicky. Swimming is ok so long as he can see the bottom. But if the water is black and dark to the point he cant see the bottom, he will panic.

Scared of heights. So long as his feet are on the ground he is ok. But standing at a height and looking over a edge not so much. 

Strengths:

Richard is not stranger to pain and injury's in battle are not often felt until the battle is over when the fire in his blood has cooled.

Cat/Viper eyes: Because of his ancestry a bit of dragon shows in his eyes that are often described as cat, or viper like. While he can see better in the dark then the average human his eyes pale in comparison to a true full blooded dragon.

Sword and Shield: Richards honed his sword and shield technique into a art over the years through trial and error.

Sell Sword: Because of his work as a mercenary. Richard has learned to wield many weapons effectively. Such as the flail, mace, battle axe, Halberd, crossbow. The list goes on. This knowledge and experience makes him a force to be reckoned with as he can switch weapons in the heat of the moment as needed as it becomes available.

Weaknesses:

Cant shoot a regular stringed bow to save his life

Not a strong swimmer.

His stamina is not the best when running.

Richard loves to fight and because of this he has a terrible habit of not shying away from a fight. A habit that often gets him into situations that could have been avoided all together.

General Appearance
Height: 5'8
Hair: Blond hair that is cut short
Eyes: Yellow eyes that resemble that of a cats, or vipers.
Appearance: Richard is not exactly a giant of a man. But he comes close. His arms and legs are thick like tree trunks. His chest deep and barreled. His body is rippled with muscles. His hair he keeps short as so it cant be grabbed in a fight. His face is normally covered in a short beard.

Skills and Abilities
Skills

A balanced fighter with common weapons

Has battle experience of rank and file soldier and possesses the knowledge to use and operate siege weapons such as the ballistae, catapult, and trebuchet among other things.

Equipment: Equipment varies from time to time. Some times he has scale or plate armor. Other times chainmail and sure coat. But a common shield and iron sword are consistent with him.
Combat Style: Sword and shield is the primary fighting style he is good at. But will discard a broken weapon for another as needed.
Background
History:

Richards family is old. Most of its history was lost to memory but there always remained the stories passed from generation to generation that there ancestor warlord was not a mortal man, but a dragon in human form. While it proved a colorful story none really believed it. How could the drake family believe it? There never were any signs.

When Richard was born those stories became a reality. For the lord father now had a son with inhuman eyes. In the terrible storm of that night his wife had gave birth to there child, his heir. It was a shame they could not allow to come to light. There was no hiding it as the eyes were there for all to see. In that storm the lord father rode out into the night with his newborn son in the crook of his arm. He stood before a small body of water with the delicate child but could not bring himself to drown it in the water.

The lord father instead chose to keep the child a secret and hidden away from the world, at least for a time. Richard grew up in isolation. The walls of the family estate was his world and he knew nothing of what was outside. At the age of 10 Richards father gave him up to a guild of mercenaries known as the "Ash Warriors". It was a opportunity for the father to be rid of his cursed child, especially now that he had another son born. A proper heir that did not betray the families draconic ancestry.

The remainder of his years Richard spent with the mercenary guild as an apprentice of sorts. Learning everything there was to learn about there profession. A profession he took up for himself.
