Personality: Sylus is a happy young dragon. He is very outgoing, and quick to befriend others despite their flaws or tribe. He also likes traveling a lot, so much so that he not so much ran away from his people as walked away waving a friendly goodbye so he could see the world. Almost as much as learning Sylus loves magic and plants, also potions he hopes to find a traveling apothecary or wizard to train him on his journey. Sylus would still fight to the death to protect his friends and family despite his happy naivety he can be downright vicious when he needs to be.

History: He's a semi trained lightwing scholar from a loving but generic NPC family who left home to become rogue and see the world

This entire area need to be described more. For example what does the light beam do, what is a hyper beam? What kind of battle magic do you know/ what are the spells.

Your character is also only 16 meaning they haven't had very much time to learn much of anything at all. You should be extremely weak in both areas of magic and potion making. They aren't easy stuff to learn.

Also can he be strong in a particular area of battle magic (say ice or lightning, or fire?) if i upped the age to 18?

It was an example. I'd say if you focused on one element you could be mildly good at it at the age of 18. You'd have to be in your late 20's to be really good at it. Which since you left your tribe and don't have access to their advance training it would take even longer.

What if i put like magical prodigy as his special ability instead of the light blast thing?

If you relinquish all LightWing abilities sure. Even then though you'll only be able to claim mastery in one element or adeptness at all.
