Solstice & Silver

Silver glided along the treetops, waiting for a sign of food. He smiled and closed his eyes as a breeze of wind passed and weeved through his fur, making him feel light. He looked on the horizon, seeing the redish clouds slowly float in little puffs. A little while later he alighted on the ground and folded his wings tightly against his side. He cautiously walked through the forest, admiring the light streaming in through the leaves on the trees. The grass was soft and lush. Birds tweeted quietly every now and then. He passed a river, where trout were jumping out of the water, catching bugs. He said to himself, "I'm sure they will like fish for their first meal." And he stepped into the water, only ankle deep. He waited until another trout jumped out of the water, and caught it in his mouth. The fish wriggled and squirmed in his mouth. Silver smacked the trout on a stone a few times, then it lay limp and still. He tossed it onto the shore a few feet away. He did this with 6 other fish, some were large, others small, some were trout, others were blue gills. He turned and leapt out of the river. He walked up to a few birch trees and started to claw the bark off, long strips falling to the ground. He picked the strips up and started to tie them together, making a small pouch big enough to fit the fish in. He walked back to the pile of fish and dropped them in the pouch. He picked the puch up with his mouth and looked toward the sky, seeing the sun was already touching the ground. "Better get back before she starts to worry." He told himself. He crouched and plunged into the air, sending himself whipping through the branches . He broke out of the canopy and glided back toward the cave. Once there, he saw the hatchlingpups at the mouth of the cave, followed by their mother. They started wagging their tails excitedly. Solstice looked at him, smiling.

"Nice catch," Solstice said, the little hatchlingpups crowded around her legs. "Let's let daddy walk through," She said to them. They scooted away to the nest, tails wagging excitedly.

Silver stepped onto the ledge and entered the cave, greeted by little yips and wagging tails at his feet. He held the bag up, teasing them. Once he got to the nest he put the puch on his back, "before you rascals get anything, first you must sit and wait until everyone is ready." he laughed. They sat, still wagging their tails. Silver put the bag on the ground and pulled out the fish one by one, and set the small ones in front of the hatchlingpups. He then set the two large ones in front of Sol and himself. "Okay, now you can eat." he laughed. The hatchlingpups began to eat frantically, sending bits of fish everywhere. Silver began laughing even harder.

Solstice laughed with him. "They must love fish," She joked, watching the little hatchlingpups dig in. All but one was throwing fish bits everywhere. The shy female slowly ate, while her sister next to her tried to steal it. Solstice ate too, crouching beside Silver.

Silver eyed the two sisters. The shy one lay crouched and sadly looked up at her sister. She stood on top of her fish, trying to keep it from getting stolen. The sister growled and nipped at her paws, that was when Silver got up and picked up the mean sister, setting her on the other side of the room. He then walked back to the shy one, and began licking her paws, which were bleeding slightly. The shy hatchlingpup cuddled against Silver's chest and slowly ate her fish, bit by bit, while Silver ate his, just as slowly so she wouldn't feel left out.

Solstice walked and sat besides Silver, having finishing her fish. Snowflakes amited from her, making everything in the cave frosty. She looked around at the white coated walls, wondering if it made anyone cold. Small fireflies twinkled about, giving the frost a sparkling sense about it. Solstice watched as all of the hatchlingpups finiahed their fish and fell asleep in the feathery nest, curled together with full stomachs.

Silver stretched and stood, walking over to the feathery nest and laying down in front of the hatchlingpups, facing the cave entrance as if trying to protect them. He looked at Sol motioned for her to lay down behind the hatchlingpups. He was the father, he needed to protect the family. He took that responsibility like nothing else mattered to him. He laid his head down, keeping his eyes on the mouth of the cave, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Solstice stood up and quietly walked over, laying down behind the hatchlingpups. Her tail curled around them, head on her paws. She fell asleep, the little things twitching in their sleep.


In the morning, snow blasted into the cave. Solstice awoke, feeling powerful due to the snow. She could feel the hatchlingpups shivering, and gently covered them in the rabbit skins. She nudged Silver, trying to get him to wake up.

SilverWolf woke at a nudge in his sleep, but didn't open his eyes. He knew that it was snowing outside by the frost stuck to his nose and the powerful vibes coming from Sol. Silver felt the hatchlingpups move, announcing their awakening. Silver sighed, let the excitment begin he thought. The little ones yawned and stretched, then made little groggy moans, then cute little gasps of excitment. They all poured over Silver, running out towards the mouth of the cave. Except for the shy girl. She stood, huddled behind Silver, and her head poking out the top. She sniffed the air, then closed her eyes, and took a long slow sniff. Silver stood, stretched and walked toward the cave entrance. The hatchlingpups teetered on the edge, smiles broad and eyes wide. He looked over the edge, the ground a sparkling white, almost several inches deep. Then, one by one, they all staggered over the edge, flapping their wings uncontrolably. Small puffs of snow flyed up when they hit the ground. They all started giggling, running around, sending snow everywhere. Silver laughed, turning to Sol and the little hatchlingpup.

solstice smiled. "Why don't you go outside and play, little one?" She asked gently, looking down to the shy hatchlingpup then to Silver. "Or, you can stay here with us," She added, stretching her wings out and then tucking them at her side.

Silver laid down on the ledge, watching the little shy one. She walked up to ledge, sniffing around at the snow. She noticed a small patch of snow beside her, and when she touched it, little swirls of bright blue pulsed out from beneath her paw. Silver looked at Solstice, waiting to see what she would think of this.

Solstice glanced over, noticing the snow. "Well... looks like we can name her now!" Solstice said, motioning towards the shy hatchling as the others clambered around and played. She walked towards her, crouching down to nuzzle the little one. "But what?" She muttered.

Silver smiled and huffed a small laugh, "I don't know..." he looked at the shy hatchlingpup. She continued to play and giggle softly with the patch of snow.

Solstice looked up. Her green optics fluttered from Silver to the hatching-pup. "What about.... Liana?" She blurts out suddenly.

Silver smiled and said "that's perfect..." he nuzzles Liana. "It fits her well." He heard a cute growling from the aggressive female and the silly male. The female kept kicking snow up at him and he just jumped around trying to bite it all. Silver laughed, "they're so cute."

Solstice giggled and nodded, wrapping a wing around Silver, carefully. "Adorable!" Solstice cried, watching the two play. "Now if we could just get the powers of the others to be shown... And there's no way it can be something other than sky and ice, right?"

Silver pondered "hmmm, yeah..." he thought for a few moments, then gave a small gasp "I know! what if we took them for a flight? see what they do?" he thumped his tail slightly.

Solstice nodded... "But we'd have to be careful, they might stumble a bit. After all, they've never flown before." She began gathering up the hatchling-pups, herding them with her feathered tail.

Silver jumped down from the ledge and began picking up the hatchlingpups and putting them on the ledge. "I think they'll be able to get a better start off on the ledge." he said to Solstice.

Solstice nodded and walked out onto the ledge, stretching out her wings. "How do we get them to spread their wings?" She asked, looking down at a few who were looking down the slope, a scared look on their faces.

Silver noticed the scared looks, "its ok, little ones, it'll be fun once you get the hang of it." They all looked at him, smiling. Silver said "okay, who wants to go first?" The silly male jotted his paws in the air and smacked them on Silver's chest, wagging his tail. Silver laughed "okay then, Solstice can you go down there and catch them in case they fall?"

Solstice nodded and beat her wings, swirling towards the ground in a spiral motion. She alighted down and rested her feathered wings at her sides, looking up and watching.

Silver looked at the silly male, "you ready?" he nodded with a big grin on his face. He went to the edge and looked down, he said "hi mommy! look at me! i gonna fly!" Silver laughed, "his first words, amazing." Silver got behind him and nudged him off the ledge. He flapped his wings unevenly. Just before he got within Solstice's reach he steadied them and was soon gliding and flapping around, giggling and saying "look at me! I flying! I flying!" Silver noticed something strange when the wind picked up, it seemed to be directed to the little male, helping him fly along in circles and avoid trees. Whenever he would stumble, a gust of wind would help him steady himself. Silver looked at Sol, wondering if she saw what he did.

Solstice stared up, a smile sliding across her maw. She watched and noticed the wind gusts and the way he glided perfectly. "Name?" She called up to Silver, watching the hatchlingpup. Scales sparkling, she beat her wings once and looked over at Silver again.

Silver thought as he watched the little male stumble and land beside Solstice. He said, "how about Ryder? because its like he rides on the wind." He laughed.
