Re: SLYCHOTIC V CHLOE (CLOUD TOP PEAKS)
Morning came upon a sleepless night. Every step the world beat slow, and there was nothing much on Sly’s mind. It was time. From the moment he decided to put his own name into this tournament, through luxurious comfort and food that were hard to swallow, and finally through thunderous applause and support. Yes, Sly knew this particular feeling. A gladiator, ready to put their own life on the line against another. This day couldn’t have come any sooner. Sly was slowly starting to understand some of the concepts behind his sudden change of living and burst of praises from his Empire. The last comfort before death.
The feeling in his heart was familiar, from the time he first sedated his first patient. It was many years ago, but thinking about patients on the table before him, in critical conditions, no longer made him nervous. Perhaps he could hope the same for this. Sly was one of three Nightwings willing enough to prove their worth for the Empire and take part in this tournament. The other two had already made their departure after their match ups were first announced.
Sly’s opponent was what created a bit of dread in him. An Icewing named Chloe. The Nightwings had little information about that tribe. The location of the battle, which were to expect the fighters in ten minutes, offered a bit of comfort. An arena upon the clouds, with mountain peaks spearing into the sky. It favoured flyers and those who value speed above strength. Sly snuck a smile across the corner of his lip. Both were in his advantages.
He stepped onto the edge of the walls of the Nightwing Empire, close behind him were the crowd erupting with cheers and chants of his name. So much expectation over a mere healer. Actually, he knew why he decided to partake in this bloody tournament—proving his worth not as a healer, but as a Nightwing. With the mask that was his usual smirk, he accepted. Behind that mask was a bit of fear and worry that he may not live to see another day.
Sly huffed a deep breath, the noise drowned by the continuous roars. The feelings of nervousness was only natural, like how a chess player would feel before they take a seat against their opponent. The value of such tournaments were weighs on his heart that he should ignore. It should only take just one match—this match—before he would feel himself again.
After all, this was his first official fight. He certainly hoped that the outcome wouldn’t add oil into the fire that was already burning between the Nightwings and Icewings.
He stretched his wings high, well received by the crowd, and beat them against the wind. Sly took to the air and flew forward, full speed towards the clouded peaks, and the trumpets behind faded into soft whispers. His heart was aching again, but he took no note of it. The swamps below him held another battleground for the tournament, but Sly didn’t bother stopping to see how it was going. He needed to get to his designated arena.
Sly was there early, the giant mountains standing in almost an orderly line, as if saluting to the arrival of a gladiator. There were hardly any trees or brushes below, not that Sly could see them well with how high he had to fly up and upon the clouds. Quite a devastating fall if any combatants were to lose a wing, though the mountains offered quite a lot of cover or resting perches. He landed with a grunt on a small ledge, sticking out near the summit of a mountain, looking. Seemed he was here early, but then again, this Chloe could be hiding. Sly made sure he was well hidden as he looked carefully at his surroundings, ready to respond to even the slightest of movements in the distance.
It was really quiet.
