Pictures and copyright?

Hey, I have a question: I used to be in an rpg forum that was super strict regarding copyrighted pictures and would not let you use any internet pictures even if the artist was credited. Sorry if this question has been asked already, but I just want to avoid any mistakes by asking if I am allowed to use credited artwork to give an idea of my dragon's look.

dude go ahead some of us use pic from internet because we cant draw dragons well or we just to lazy also the rules don't say anything for copyright unless it a oc drawing from other site members then you proble have to ask them to use

Actually, if you use a pic from a place like DeviantArt, unless the person has said that it is free for anyone to use, you need to have their permission or give them credit for the picture. If you're just searching on google and the pic you decide to use is signed by the artist, you need to give them credit. Same applies for characters that are basically exact copies of characters from tv/film/book series. (Note that we don't allow exact copies, of course in terms of abilites; you have to change them up to fit with our lore here, but you know what I mean.)
